This NNO thing was new to me until today. I first learned about it from a rep at Liberty Mutual, when I had to cancel my policy post having to junk my car unexpectedly last week. I’m in no hurry to purchase another car, but plan to continue to drive actively by way of borrowing cars from family and rental companies. Liberty does not offer NNO policies, and could not recommend specific insurance companies. But the rep suggested to Google “Named Non-Owner Policy” to look into it further. Doing so, I read a handful of articles and forums that were somewhat helpful. It wasn’t until I read this blog by Eleanor, when I got the clearest answer and direction. I first phoned StateFarm, and got a quote of $400+ per year. Skipped Progressive. Then phoned AAA, where the rep told me that NNO’s do not exist. Half believing the AAA phone rep, I decided to walk in a nearby AAA office to inquire, and EUREKA! Turns out, NNO Policies have existed at AAA for many years now. Luckily, I’m an AAA member, and the application process took less than 15 minutes. I signed up with AAA since their quote was $172 per year, less than half of StateFarm’s.
